The book gives a description of the creation of knowledge in Japanese companies. Focus is on the notion of tacit knowledge, which contrary to explicit knowledge is the type of knowledge that is difficult or impossible to describe in words. According to the authors this tacit knowledge is absolutely central to the company’s efforts of innovation. The interaction between tacit and explicit knowledge is among other things explained by the notions of “socialization”, “externalisation”, “combination” and “internalisation”, by which an interesting vocabulary is given for a discussion of the knowledge work of companies. The book states a large number of examples to illustrate the application of the principles. |
